Kane County

Real estate in St. Charles, IL.

A Fox River town with a historic downtown on both banks, between Elgin and Geneva.
A wooden pedestrian bridge crossing a calm river, with a small riverfront downtown behind it.

St. Charles

St. Charles is built around its river crossing, with a downtown that works on both sides of the water and parkland running along the banks. The housing near the center is genuinely old and genuinely varied.

Away from the river the town turns into conventional subdivisions, and the difference in both character and price between the two halves is substantial.

What the housing looks like

  • Victorians and frame houses near the downtown river crossing
  • Mid-century single-family on established streets
  • Newer subdivisions east and west of the river
