Cook County

Real estate in Oak Park, IL.

An architecturally significant village on Chicago's western border, with Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio and a large historic district.

Oak Park

Oak Park is the rare suburb where the housing itself is the attraction. Wright's own house and studio are here, along with a concentration of Prairie School and Victorian architecture that draws people from well outside the region.

It is walkable, served by both the Green and Blue Lines and the UP-West Metra, and priced accordingly. Buying a period house here means buying its maintenance schedule too, and that is worth going into with open eyes.

What the housing looks like

  • Prairie School and Victorian houses in the historic districts
  • Foursquares and bungalows on tree-lined blocks
  • Vintage courtyard condo buildings near the transit lines
