Cook County

Real estate in Riverside, IL.

A planned village of curving streets and heavy tree cover along the Des Plaines River, laid out by Frederick Law Olmsted.
An overhead view of an established suburban neighborhood almost entirely under mature tree canopy.

Riverside

Riverside was designed as a landscape before it was a subdivision — Olmsted's plan replaced the grid with curving roads, generous common ground and a canopy that still defines the place. The whole village core is a National Historic Landmark district.

Housing is varied and almost always individual rather than repeated, and the BNSF stop sits right in the middle of it. Inventory is small, so timing matters more here than price negotiation does.

What the housing looks like

  • Individually designed period houses on irregular lots
  • Victorians, foursquares and Prairie-influenced homes
  • A small stock of mid-century infill
